Welcome to Golden, Illinois!
Visit the “Prairie Mill” in Golden, Illinois (Adams County), a restored Dutch smock windmill and a historic landmark in western Illinois. It is the only restored, US-built windmill operating with its original millstones and wood gear mechanism! Built in 1873 by Henry Emminga, it’s one of only two dutch windmills in downstate Illinois.
Our Vision
To see the windmill and museum proudly supported by all generations of the Golden and surrounding community, teaching future generations about prairie life in rural Illinois between 1870 and 1935.
