Christmas at the Mill |

The Golden Historical Society will host its annual "Christmas at the Mill" on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Prairie Mills Windmill Hall. All proceeds benefit the Society.
Soup, sandwiches, desserts and beverages will be available all day. Christmas music and other entertainment throughout the event to put everyone in the Christmas spirit.
Special Attractions
SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP! Vendors will fill the hall with handmade crafts and other gifts. The Gift Shop will also be open until 4:00 PM and features many unique windmill items.
The gift shop will also be open from 1:00-4:00 PM on December 12 and December 19.

A BAKE SALE features homemade traditional German and American Christmas treats. Come early for best choice.
SANTA's COMING! Your kids can join Santa for lunch at 11:30 AM. Space is limited so reservations are required. Contact Lois Reason by
From 12:30 to 2:30 PM kids can have their picture taken with Santa by our own photographer for a small fee. Contact Shelly Jones by e-mail or phone 217-696-4254 for more information.
KIDS ACTIVITIES! At 2:00 PM kids will experience home life and how a family prepared for Christmas in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They may participate in household chores, create a gingerbread house and make holiday decorations. “Opa and Oma” will be in the parlor and will describe old German Christmas traditions and life in Golden. Mr. and Mrs. Emminga may also make an appearance.
TREE AND DECORATION DISPLAYS! The Windmill Hall will be filled with a variety of Christmas trees with trimmings from the 1800s along with some modern trees. There will also be displays of other family traditions and handmade decorations. Anyone may decorate a tree or provide items to display.
New this year! We are decorating a special tree with photos from past Christmases and winter scenes. Anyone may submit photos. TREE DECORATING CONTEST! Central Elementary School classes will each receive a two-foot tree to decorate in their own theme. The trees will be judged and prizes will be awarded. Vote for your favorite tree! A silent auction for the trees will conclude at 5 PM.
HOME TOUR! There will be Christmas tour of homes in the Golden area. Homes are open from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Tickets will be available Saturday only at the Mill or at any house on the tour. After the tour, be sure to return to the mill for refreshments and last minute gift shopping. Tickets are available for $10.00 at the Windmill Hall or at any of the participating homes during the tour.
